2019 is in full swing, and as we get deeper into this year, trends begin popping into the mainstream. Although we always say that as a customer you should follow what you believe to be the best design choice for your project, these are just some of my personal favorite selections for kitchen design trends I see currently popular.
Tall Backsplashes
Unlike the standard four-inch backsplash, tall backsplashes cover the entire back wall surface of your kitchen. When made from the same material as your countertops tall backsplashes have the benefit of being easier to maintain than tile and other multi grout backsplashes. The low number of seams gives a sleek and smooth backing to your kitchen. A dramatic effect can also be achieved by selecting a stone with a bold pattern if so, we highly recommend keeping cabinetry and surrounding walls in solid tones.
Single Level Islands
The kitchen has always acted as the hub of social interaction in the home, from prepping dinner to casual conversation around the kitchen Island so it makes sense to want to make this area as open and welcoming as possible. By removing the raised bar on your kitchen island and leveling it to the base cabinet level you can amplify the space in your kitchen. If possible, the island overhang can be increased creating a seating area in your island with the addition of stools.
Adding Raw Looking Materials to Your Kitchen Design
This trend involves the incorporation of natural elements into the design of your kitchen. This can be accomplished by using natural looking wood or stone to accent the other features in your kitchen. The use of honed finish stone is especially recommended for this as a wide array of materials (in natural stones as well as some options in engineered stones) give off the desired “raw” look.
Deep Drawers and Pull Out Interior Shelves
When it comes to kitchens, beauty as well as practicality are a must and deep drawers and pull out interior shelves are the way to go. Deep drawers are cabinet drawers with added depth in order to allow for easy storage and pull out interior shelves are an easy addition to any existing cabinet that allow for your stowed goods to be even easier to access.
Two-toned Cabinetry
The use of two-toned cabinets allows you to play around with the desired visual effect you want for your kitchen. Whether you are looking for your cabinets to stand out using dark colors or give your kitchen a breath of fresh air by expanding it with light colors you can achieve the kitchen of your dreams through the manipulation of different colors in your kitchen cabinets.
